Bangladesh play their last practice match of the ICC Cricket World Cup’ 2011 against Pakistan today (15.02.20011) at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka. The day-night basis match will starts at 2:30 pm (BD Time) at the renovated Stadium. Both the teams made their practices yesterday (14.02.2011) for today’s practice match.
Siddons to field extra bowlers
Bangladesh head coach Jamie Siddons focused on to get the things rights irrespective of the match result when they would take on Pakistan in their last warm-up match on Tuesday at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur. Despite the win against Canada with ease, Siddons reckoned still there was much more things which should be settled before their World Cup kick-starts. With the world knocking around the corner and Bangladesh would have to face off red-hot favourite India in the opening match, it would be a last opportunity for the Australian coach to sort out the problems of the side.
“We have got a lot of things which we need to get right. Lot of things we did not do perfectly in the last game. I know they would be much more competitive team. The match really would be a great challenge for us but most importantly good practice opportunity for us before the Indian game,” Siddons told the reporters on Monday. “They have a good team. But we are just worried about our own game not about Pakistan. They will probably play 14 and we will play 13 but the reality is it’s not actually a cricket match but it is a practice match. We are going to use it like that,” he added. “It’s important to keep momentum (of winning) but we are not too worried about the result. We always try to win games. But I will more concentrate to try my players. I might use seven bowlers instead of five to give everyone a chance. So it’s not a proper cricket match,” the shrewd technician revealed. Bangladesh did not get enough opportunities to bat a longer period in the first practice game against Canada as the openers’ duo Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes were good enough to drift away the Northern American side. An easy ride deprived Bangladesh coach Siddons of not justifying his team’s ability during the powerplay which was easily the country’s one of the most troublesome point. But simultaneously, the head coach ruled out of any big experiment. “We will not go for a lot of experiments. The batting lineup will be pretty close. As there will be 13 players playing so there will be extra bowlers and not batsmen. We will try to execute what we want to do during the powerplays,” he disclosed. “We batted in the day time a lot. So we needed to bat in the night and the dew factor was a big aspect. We wanted to bat a lot but we did not get chance. It’s a bit disappointing,”he rued. Siddons also revealed that they would retain the batting line up which played against Canada. “The batting line up will be same to Chittagong. But no one saw the batting line up in Chittagong so I don’t know what we are going to do,” he informed. Bangladesh’s mentor was hopeful about the bowlers and expected they would keep up their performance.
“Razzak did not bowl great against Canada but he is bowling better Monday. He came through an extra half an hour practice on the day. His landing is better. I am sure he will step up before the big game. Rubel is our number two opening bowler as Mash (Mashrafe Bin Mortoza) being out. He got two wickets. He brought early break through. We need to get two three early wickets to restrict our opponents,” he remained bullish.
Bangladesh’s only victory against Pakistan came up during their memorable journey in 1999 World Cup. Siddons however put aside the past sweet memories of beating Pakistan in 1999 as he urged all to focus on the present moment. “1999 was miles away. No one even remembers 1999 so no worries about 1999 lets think about now 2011,” he remarked. Though Siddons did not get back to the past, it seemed the bitter history for Pakistan always haunted them. Probably this is the reason Shoaib still paid a good attention to the match despite being a practice game. “We did not consider Bangladesh an easy team. So we’ll take the tomorrow’s (15.02.2011) game as easy one and try our best to win it.”
