Tigers go down fighting

Demonstrate spirited chase after Sehwag, Kohli flay bowling attack

Bangladesh gave a good fight before going down to favourites India by 87 runs in the opening match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 at the Sher-e- Bangla National Stadium on Saturday.
Bangladesh were restricted to 283 for 9 while chasing an improbable target of 371.
Earlier, ruthless India left the boisterous partisan crowd shell-shocked as they strode on sublime Virender Sehwag and Virat Kohli centuries to set a daunting target for Bangladesh. With an aspiration to watch the reverberation of 2007 World Cup, on and off the stadium, exhilarating crowd roared like no one has seen before. In no time, Sehwag thwarted the party smashing a powerful drives to cover-point boundary off Shafiul Islam Suhas in the first ball of the 2011 World Cup.
Bangladesh team as if lost the baton from the first ball as Sehwag started tearing apart the bowlers with disdain. There was ample support from young Virat Kohli, who won the battle of crucial number four spot ousting Suresh Raina.
In 2007 World Cup, Mashrafe Bin Mortoza got rid of Sehwag cheaply to spark Indian batting collapse stunningly. This time around the swashbuckling opener was more assured and buried the nightmare effectively with smacking a blockbuster 175. Kohli also matched with Sehwag’s aggression fittingly to blast an undefeated 100 runs. Riding on those two tons, India piled up 370 for four in 50 overs as Shakib Al Hasan’s decision to bat first backfired.
When Sehwag set the tune of the match with 12 runs in the first over of Suhas, Sachin Tendulkar also decided to pound Bangladeshi bowlers from the words go. New ball bowlers Suhas and Rubel erred the line and length in face of devastating image of Sehwag and Sachin. The four overs between them milked 36 runs and Shakib brought up Razzak on the scene. He initially maintained a tight line and length but Indian got going well with brining up 50 in just nine overs.
Amidst the huge sigh and cry, Bangladesh got the first success by trapping Sachin run out who was on 28. Sachin’s dismissal sent the crowd in delirium but the joy was shortened when Gautam Gambhir further started assaulting Bangladesh.
With Sehwag being adamant to make Bangladeshi bowlers listless with his powerful drive, Gambhir adopted the approach to find the gap. He found it with ease and some eye catching dab, push coupled with occasional boundaries made him set in the crease totally. The duo added 83 runs, building on the 69 runs opening stand that effectively established the firm domination.
Though Mahmudullah Riyad scattered Gambhir’s wicket with a nasty delivery, India never looked in danger.  After Gambhir’s dismissal on run-a-ball 39, India’s most in-form batsman Virat Kohli joined with Sehwag as India further tightened the noose.
Kohli took little time to settle him in the crease and when he got set, he cut and drove the bowlers preciously and seamlessly went towards century. In between Shewag brought up his 14th century with just 94 balls and once Kohli got his half-century, they both toyed with Bangladeshi bowlers at will.   Sehwag seemed to be  going to complete his double century with ease until Shakib Al Hasan would Sehwag played-on as he got out on 175, exact the same runs which Kapil Dev did against Zimbabwe 28 years ago. Sehwag clubbed 14 fours and five sixes conceding just 140 balls.
