Bangladesh on 17 February evening created a new history with an electrifying opening ceremony of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 at the magnificent Bangaban-dhu National Stadium as the frenzy around the world cup reaches fever pitch.
The gala ceremony manifested aestheticism of host Bangladesh's traditional heritage and culture along with traditional culture of co-hosts India and Sri Lanka.
The 135-minute opening ceremony of the mega sports event started at 6:15 pm.
Cerebrated Canadian rock star Bryan Adams and India's star singer Sonu Nigam rendered songs alongside renowned Bangladeshi singers Sabina Yasmin, Runa Laila and Momtaz to the ecstasy of millions of people around the cricket-loving world.
Bangladeshi pop stars including Arnob, Mila and Balam gave a kick-start to the colourful opening ceremony with a 45-minute pre-show that featured a song penned specifically for the occasion.
